NH Growers’ Dinner Series Continues at Sunset Hill House

The 2007 New Hampshire Growers’ Dinner series moves on to the next stop on August 23 at the Restaurant at Sunset Hill at the Sunset Hill House in Sugar Hill. This series of special dinner events highlights the use of local farm and food products at local restaurants. The August 23 dinner event is co-sponsored by the Turtle Ridge Foundation, also of Sugar Hill, a non-profit organization run by New Hampshire skier, Bode Miller and his family.  Turtle Ridge Foundation is dedicated to supporting community health, diversity and sustainable living.  The Foundation operates an organic farm which will provide much of the produce for the dinner.

Sunset Hill House, built in 1880, traces its history to the Grand Resort Hotels of the New Hampshire White Mountains. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, residents of Boston, Hartford, New York, Philadelphia and other eastern cities would arrive by train and horse-drawn coach to stay for weeks or months at the old resort hotels which were generally referred to as "houses" despite their huge scale. Sunset Hill House, high atop Sunset Hill Ridge has been long-recognized as having among the best accessible mountain views in New England.

Innkeepers Lon and Nancy Henderson and Executive Chef Joseph Peterson are excited to host this NH Growers’ Dinner event.  Peterson holds a degree from Johnson and Wales University and has been featured in Bon Appetit Magazine. He has won numerous awards for fine dining at Sunset Hill House including “NH’s Very Best Spectacular Meal” (NH Magazine).  He, and the Hendersons, are members of the prestigious Chaine des Rotisseurs food guild.  The Restaurant at Sunset Hill also boasts Wine Spectator awards for the past two years.

Chef Peterson’s menu will include fresh seasonal produce, and NH’s very best cheeses, game, meats and fish.  Innkeeper and oenophile Nancy Henderson has selected several limited production NH spirits to complement the dinner, including cider from Poverty Lane Orchards and Wines from Jewell Towne Vineyards.

Growers’ Dinner events are coordinated by the New Hampshire Farm to Restaurant Connection, a program linking New Hampshire farms with New Hampshire restaurants.   The Growers’ Dinner at the Sunset Hill House is the fourth in the 2007 series of New Hampshire dinners being held from June to November.
