The Shaker Table to Host First Official Growers' Dinner of 2005

The 2005 New Hampshire Growers' Dinner series officially kicks off on June 29 with an event hosted by The Shaker Table the new restaurant at the Canterbury Shaker Village. Chef Sebastian Carosi has developed a multi-course taste extravaganza featuring produce grown in the Shaker Village gardens as well as products from nearby New Hampshire farms. Growers' Dinner events are an effort of the New Hampshire Farm to Restaurant Connection, a program linking New Hampshire farms with New Hampshire restaurants. The Growers' Dinner at The Shaker Table is the first in a series of dinners scheduled from June through October at several restaurant locations around the state.

Much as Winemaker Dinners celebrate the vintage harvest, Growers' Dinners highlight local farm products and its producers. Talented chefs create dishes that feature the products of selected farmers. Menus (and recipes) are created to not only promote and commemorate the event, but to use as on-going public relations for both the farms and participating restaurants. These programs will also help to heighten awareness among the public for the quality, variety and availability of local products throughout New Hampshire. Both consumers and businesses are encouraged to purchase and enjoy New Hampshire's own whenever possible.

The June 29th evening will begin at 5 pm with a Garden Tour at the Canterbury Shaker Village. The gardens are certified organic and include a diverse variety of crops grown on land historically farmed by the Shaker Community. Visitors will also have a chance to visit with Shaker Village gardeners. At 5:30 pm join Chef Carosi at The Shaker Table, across the street, for a tantalizing array of hors d'oeuvres, followed by dinner at 6pm. Chef Carosi has planned "A Taste of New Hampshire's Bounty" where guests will be treated to several courses of savory dishes all made with items from local farms, including seasonal vegetables, cheeses, venison, trout, and more.

Space is limited at this unique event and reservations are required. For dinner details, call The Shaker Table at 783-4238.
